Dr. Ovando Gibson has been noted as being one of a small number of Latina women to have earned a doctorate in theology within the discipline of Practical Theology in the United States.

Practical theology encompasses Descriptive, Historical, Systematic, and Strategic movements of theology that are contingent on the Biblical, Historical past while bringing relevant innovative solutions to contemporary Christian practice.

Her research concentration was on Protestant Spirituality as well as on the Doctrine of Scripture.

She has published many articles in the fields of stewardship, discipleship and developed a full adult workshop curriculum and framework for spiritual growth and discipleship.

Dr. Maria delights in her family and has a love for all things quilting and gardening.

One of her favorite past times is fly-fishing. She is grateful not to live along a river otherwise she might not be available for long stretches of time.
